About Aqua Start Academy

Meet your instructor — Dan Stephens.

As a local primary school teacher, I am passionate about helping children build confidence, skills, and a love of learning. I bring this same patient, supportive, and individualised approach to my swimming instruction.

In New Zealand, surrounded by beaches, rivers, lakes, and pools, I believe swimming is an essential life skill. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn to swim and feel safe and confident in and around water.

My goal is to provide a positive learning environment where swimmers can develop water confidence and strong foundational skills at their own pace. Whether they are beginners or refining their technique, I am committed to supporting each child on their swimming journey.

FAQ

Parent questions, answered.

What should my child bring?
Togs, towel and a pair of goggles. A warm change of clothes for after is a good idea, especially in winter.
Where do I park at Stadium 2000?
There's free parking right at Stadium 2000 on Kinross Street. Allow a few extra minutes on Sundays during sports season as it can fill up.
How many lessons should we book?
Bookings are for a full school term, and payment is required in full before the term commences.
What's the refund or cancellation policy?
All policy information, including our refund and cancellation policy, can be found under the Policies link in the footer.
Do you teach private or 1:1 lessons?
If you think your child would be more suited to a 1:1 lesson, please get in touch and let us know. While private lesson availability depends on several factors, including time and schedule, our goal is to accommodate all children and their needs.
Do you teach adults too?
Right now we're focused on children, but get in touch — if there's enough interest we'd love to add adult lessons down the track.
